Owl Box

During the summer, Si was finishing off revamping the Field House late one evening. As he sat down to take in the rising full moon, he saw a bird come flying in to land on the roof, less than 2 meters away from him. He turned to see it and was wonderfully surprised to see a little brown tawny owl looking right back at him.

We’ve been missing the owls at Kith since the lovely barn owl mama died a couple of years ago. There’s still a barn owl box in the oak at the bottom of the field but alas, no barn owls have returned yet. We had the privilege of watching three owlets grow there during our first summer so hold the space in such a special place in our hearts. We still have our fingers crossed that this autumn perhaps a new mama and papa owl might make the box their own, keep your fingers crossed too please?

So, back to the tawny owl. Whilst mowing the wild flower meadow just the other day, I looked down to find a tawny owl feather! It got me thinking that perhaps now would be a good time to build a box to put in the woodland. If-we-build-it-they-will-come, kind of situation.

The Barn Owl Trust have a great set of plans to use, so… here we go!
