Please let us know how old your little ones are when booking so Dougie can tailor the stories to the ages
The second of our events with the wonderful Dougie Mackay, a day for the whole family.
Come and join in an interactive day of storytelling and nature connection activities. Storyteller and outdoor facilitator Dougie Mackay will share a series of nature inspired wonder tales, followed by outdoor activities, exploration and play. As well as listening to stories, children and families will get a chance to create and tell some stories of their own. This should be a rich and enjoyable day of outdoor play, exploration and story set at Kith Homestead.
This day event is suitable for the whole family. We know that for young children, sitting down is really tricky (we have a boisterous 3 year old wildling who rarely sits for very long) so we encourage families to stick with Dougie and his activities as long as you’re able to. Allowing the older children to enjoy the stories, activities and crafts whilst giving the younger children chance to dip in and out of the group as they need.
Who is Dougie Mackay?
Dougie is a professional storyteller with a background in Community Education, and ten years experience in outdoor facilitation. Influenced by the 8 Shields model of nature connection and regenerative culture, he uses stories to weave threads of connection between audience, landscape, the imagination and the rich themes present in folk tales and myths.
In addition to ‘sold out’ shows at the Edinburgh fringe, he has run story camps with teens on Scottish islands and gathered tales from marginalised communities in inner Glasgow. Workshops and performance are bespoke and crafted to suit the needs of participants and respond to local environments and conditions. He believes great storytelling is at the heart of cultural change, and if nothing else, is a lot of fun.
